Weight Loss Camp Before and After

Samantha lost 96lbs at Weight Crafters

"I initially signed up for 4 weeks, as I had a substantial amount of weight to lose and just was looking to get a head start on bettering myself and getting myself on track to start my career. I ended up staying much longer and have returned many times since I left for maintenance.

The trainers were fantastic, although there were other people in the training session I never felt neglected. The food was delicious and the staff was knowledgeable and attentive to everyone's varying needs.

I would recommend this camp for anyone no matter how much weight needed to be lost or how young or old. Very knowledgeable, professional, and caring team."

With so many options, you may not know where to start when choosing a weight loss camp for yourself or a family member.

Many larger weight loss resorts flaunt luxury living, impractical gourmet food, lengthy spa treatments, crowded large group fitness routines and premium prices.

On the other hand, some fat camps stuff several clients at a time into shared accommodations or put them up in nearby hotels, and provide the bare minimum in the way of support or guidance.

At Weight Crafters, our whole health approach is results-driven and designed to provide comfort, practical fitness, one-on-one attention and practical nutrition.

We don't believe in fad diets or deprivation. [2] Rather, we teach you how to live a healthier lifestyle by making smarter choices, being conscious of portion sizes, and engaging in physical activity - all while enjoying our beautiful sunny white sand beaches and private condos.

Our activities are designed to be fun yet effective, our meals are delicious and filling while providing optimal nutrition, and our staff are supportive and engaged.

Our goal is to provide a lifestyle you can replicate and maintain long term.

And at Weight Crafters, we believe you deserve to reap these benefits without breaking the bank. That's why our rates are fair, and offer the best value of any residential adult weight loss program in the United States. [3]

What happens at fat camp?

Fat camps are residential weight-loss retreats where overweight or obese adults and seniors go to get away from their daily routine and concerns and focus entirely on losing weight, improving their strength and energy levels, and often-times turning a new leaf on a healthier lifestyle. The combination of healthy meals and exercise ensure a net-negative calorie intake and steady, maintainable weight loss.

At Weight Crafters, helping you achieve this kind of life change long-term is our #1 goal.

How much does it cost to go to a weight loss camp?

Live-in weight loss programs for adults can (on average) cost between $2000 and $4000 per week. Some luxury resorts cost substantially more. Typically, the more weeks you stay, the lower the price-per-week will be. Those which provide lots of benefits at significantly lower advertised rates are usually not accounting for fees and "extras" that will ultimately raise their final costs significantly.

At Weight Crafters, we provide all-inclusive rates - meaning that all meals, lodging, activities, and everything else you need are included in the program price.

Does insurance pay for weight loss camp?

The Affordable Care Act requires insurance companies to cover obesity screening and counseling at no cost to you. Coverage varies however, depending upon where you live and what health plan you have. Some health insurance companies recognize fat camps as weight loss treatment centers or as extended therapy sessions, and offer partial reimbursement. You will need to consult with your insurance provider to know for sure whether they can help you pay for your stay.

How much weight can you lose at fat camp?

It is completely typical to lose anywhere from 10lbs to 25lbs of body fat in 2 to 3 weeks at weight-loss camp. Your individual results may vary significantly depending on your body size, fitness level, age, gender, medical conditions, and other factors.

A Typical Day

  • A light morning breakfast
  • Morning exercise and fitness activity
  • Lunch provided in your condo
  • Afternoon fitness activities
  • Delicious dinner entrees prepared and provided to enjoy in your condo
  • Flexible down-time for rest, massage or a walk on the beach

A typical day at weight loss camp consists of active (e.g., sports and fitness) and leisure time (e.g., nutrition, therapeutic massage, beach walks) as well as three delicious, low-calorie meals every day (with the exception of Sundays).

Exercise time is split into two portions - morning and afternoon - and activities vary daily depending on your age, physical needs and the interests of the group. [4] Weight Crafters is not designed to be a military boot camp or fat farm; you will be working out, but not overworked. We also offer a variety of low-impact exercises [5] such as beach fitness routines, swimming and more.

We perform measurements and a full assessment each week, to help you track your progress. Nutritional counseling and life coaching sessions are also optionally available, and designed to help you learn skills to help maintain a healthy lifestyle upon returning home.

More Fat Camp Questions and Answers

Does weight loss camp work better for men or women?

Gender does play a role in your journey to a healthier weight - but the differences equal out over time. Studies have shown that men typically lose more weight in the first few weeks after starting a weight loss program. Over the longer term however, women will generally catch up. [6]

This is why it's crucially important that you think of your time at weight-loss camp as a jump start, rather than a quick fix. The habits, strength and motivation you build while you're here are going to keep you moving forward towards your goals in the coming months after you return home.

Am I too old to exercise and lose weight?

If you're over 50, you may have noticed that staying in shape brings new challenges. This is completely normal - but it's no reason to quit! On the contrary - maintaining a healthy weight and staying regularly active are the most powerful tools you have to reverse the effects of age, and give yourself more years of quality time ahead. [7]

At Weight Crafters, our team has the knowledge and experience to help you safely and quickly increase strength, improve mobility, shed excess fat and feel more energetic.

Is weight-loss camp like boot camp in the military?

While it's true that our founder is a United States Marine Corps veteran, our fitness retreat is nothing like Parris Island. Nobody will scream in your face, make you do 100 push-ups, or put you on latrine duty.

You aren't here to get toughened up for war - you're with us to have a good time while improving your health and hopefully starting down the path to a long-term healthier lifestyle. We do provide structure and support - but it's a completely different approach.

Am I too out-of-shape to participate?

The goal of fat camp is to help guests dealing with overweight or obesity challenges lose weight, raise their self-confidence, self esteem and self-image, and teach them healthy life skills and choices. [8] Generally speaking, we are here specifically to help out-of-shape people improve their health. Our team has the training and experience to help clients will all kinds of health issues.

This being said, there are certain health conditions which could prevent you from attending our program - or any residential weight loss program. If you have concerns, we welcome you to reach out and talk them over with us.

Do you accept kids and teenagers?

We understand that summer fat camps and weightloss camps for kids and teens are popular, and that children deal with obesity issues just like their parents do. [9]

Weight Crafters however, is specifically designed for the needs and goals of adult participants. We do not provide the kind of supervision required for children, and any prospective guest under the age of 18 who wishes to attend must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

If you are looking for a youth-oriented weight loss camp program, we recommend checking out New Image Camp, Camp Jump Start, or Camp Shane.

Is this like The Biggest Loser?

Not exactly.

Weight loss is a long-term commitment to your health and your future. At Weight Crafters we prioritize reducing body fat while preserving and building lean muscle. This approach means that while you will certainly see your overall weight decrease on the scale, the more important change will be how you look in the mirror and how much better you feel. [10] This is why we perform full body assessments, as well as before and after photos. You'll appreciate coming home 10, 20 or 30lbs lighter - but what you'll really love is how many inches you shave off, and how noticeable this change will be for your friends and co-workers back home.

We also won't purposely tempt you with cakes, cookies and snacks strategically placed in front of hidden cameras. We promise!

Will I be hungry at weight loss camp?

A common misconception about adult fat camp programs is that you'll spend 10 hours per day on a treadmill and be rewarded with tiny, bland meals that leave you starving. Nothing could be further from the truth!

At Weight Crafters, you'll be eating three substantial meals per day, prepared for you by our team. By choosing healthy ingredients and delicious recipes, we make sure you feel satisfied while getting exactly the right amount of calories for sustainable fitness activity and net weight reduction.

Can I really reverse diabetes by losing weight, or is that a myth?

The truth is, it depends. For most people recently diagnosed, type 2 diabetes can be reversed with significant weight loss. Your chances of full remission however, will vary depending on how long you've been diabetic and whether you can maintain a healthy body weight long-term.

The key to type 2 diabetes is your personal fat threshold - that is, the amount of fat your body can handle before insulin production begins to diminish. New research has shown that recently-diagnosed type 2 diabetics can experience a success rate of up to 90% in reversing the disease [11] if they lose enough weight to allow their insulin-producing beta cells to recover and begin functioning properly - but that weight loss must be maintained, or the disease will immediately re-surface.

People Also Ask...

Do fat camps actually work?

Yes. And no. A large percentage of weight loss camps can provide predictable weight loss in a short timeframe - but many programs do not prepare campers to keep the weight off long term. The lasting effectiveness of your stay will depend on your own commitment, and the structure and mental training provided during your stay.

Are weight loss camps worth it?

Weight loss camp often costs more than stay-at-home options. But if you've struggled to maintain a healthy weight, attending a residential weight loss camp can give you a major boost and provide strong motivation to stay the course that you haven't found any other way.

What is the most effective type of weight loss program?

The best weight loss program for you will depend on your individual needs. Universally however, a good weight loss program shoud be designed by experts, with a strong focus on balanced nutrition, regular exercise, long-term goals and accountability.

When was fat camp invented?

Modern-day weight loss camps are a very specialized form of health spa - a broad concept that has been evolving since our earliest recorded civilizations. The earliest "fat camps" in modern culture were actually multipurpose rehab centers, where the well-off could get away from the world to quit drinking, or smoking, or lose a few pounds.

About Weight Loss

In a nutshell, maintaining a healthy weight offers the following benefits:

  • Slowing or preventing the onset of Type 2 Diabetes
  • Improvement in Hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • Improved cardiovascular health
  • Reduced joint pain and increased mobility

Weight loss is the main treatment for obesity.

There is substantial evidence that a 7-10% weight loss can prevent progression from pre-diabetes to type 2 diabetes. A 5-15% weight reduction can also manage cardiovascular risk for diabetics. And even a 10% reduction in weight can in some cases reverse Type 2 Diabetes into full remission. [12]

Health risks are reduced, [13] fitness is improved, [14] and diabetes may be delayed with weight loss in overweight or obese people. People with osteoarthritis of the knee may benefit from it since it can reduce pain and increase mobility. Hypertension can decrease with weight loss.

Depression, stress, or boredom may contribute to weight gain, [15] and if this is the case, individuals are encouraged to seek medical attention. According to a 2010 study, dieters who had a full night's sleep lost twice as much weight as those with inadequate sleep. [16]

Over the long term, most dieters regain weight. [17] The Dietary Guidelines for Americans state that those who achieve and manage a healthy weight successfully do so by carefully consuming only the necessary number of calories and being physically active. [18]

Adopting a diet in which you consume fewer calories than you burn helps you lose weight. [19] Dietary and lifestyle changes must be permanent however, to make weight loss permanent. Counseling and exercise by themselves do not result in weight loss. Dieting alone can result in weight loss, but only combining diet with exercise provides the best results. [20]
