Here's the issue: You work your booty off.  You stay super disciplined in the kitchen ... You not only make it to the gym for all of your workouts, you perform them with the intensity of a lioness protecting her cubs ... You begrudgingly say NO in the face of temptation ... You keep track of EVERYTHING ... In short, you do everything you're supposed to do to get fit, lean, and healthy.

Of course, the pounds, inches, and mirror image are much slower to respond than you'd like (I know it's unfair, but it's the way things work).  Maybe it's really happening, or maybe it's all in your mind, but you could swear that your friends, family, coworkers, and strangers are judging you.  That's it -- the judging, whether real or imagined, is enough to send the men in white coats after just about anybody.

Enter: The private victory!

Just like the iceberg in the picture above, a HUGE percentage of it is underwater and unseen by the world.  Of course, that doesn't mean it isn't there, right?  Not only that, but it's actually more influential and important than the rest of the iceberg, the tip as it were.

Let's look at an example of a rock band that toils away for years in a garage, then in dive bars, getting paid peanuts, and slowly climbing their way to fame and fortune when some song from the 6th album they record hits the top 100 songs.  They silently chuckle when everybody calls them an "overnight success" because they know better.  They remember all the times some well-meaning family member told them to be more realistic.

The real work often times goes unnoticed.

Lot's of the unnoticed work has to happen before efforts are noticed.  When you finally make it through a workout that you never thought you'd be able to get through, nobody's around to see it.  When you make a wise menu choice, they poke fun at you.  When you go all day without even thinking about chocolate, nobody even notices.  All of these silent successes, even though they don't make the world stop to take notice, add up until eventually, you have undeniable results that make people's jaws absolutely drop.

So, next time you're worried about somebody judging you for not making faster progress, just chuckle to yourself silently and take comfort in knowing that you're only a couple years away from becoming an overnight success.
